In April 2012 the County Council passed legislation (Bill 6-12) to assist small
businesses that are negatively impacted by county redevelopment projects, and
directed the Department of Economic Development to create a program to
do so. The proposed Small Business Assistance Program is the result of this
legislation (Proposed Executive Regulation 24-12).
Before submission to the Council, the proposal is open for comment by the
public until January 31.
(This is the legislation that the Coalition for Fair Redevelopment of Wheaton
worked to put in place, although it will affect the entire county.)

Since 1999, the Chamber has run a program providing meals for Public
Safety personnel during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays.
During these times, most eating establishments are closed in the
Wheaton and Kensington area. Many public safety men and women are
handling every emergency and find it difficult to locate restaurants
open for meals while on duty. For most of us, this is a holiday.
For the for Public Safety personnel, it is their duty.
We provide meals for these Public Safety Personnel:
- Montgomery County Police stationed in this Area
- Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad
- Kensington Volunteer Fire Department

degree completion, business staffing, and the Student Employment Services program.
Dr. Pollard assumed leadership of Montgomery College in August 2010,
following a national search by the College’s Board of Trustees. She oversees
the education and student services for 60,000 credit and noncredit students.
Her awards and honors include Washingtonian's 100 Most Powerful Women,
25 CEOs You Need to Know from The Gazette of Politics and Business,
the YWCA Woman of Achievement, and she serves on the Presidents’ Round
Table of the National Council of Black American Affairs.
Dr. Pollard received her Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies
in higher education from Loyola University Chicago, and her M.A. and B.A.
in English from Iowa State University.
