Cloud Computing and E-commerce for Small Businesses
with Dr. Daniel Salcedo, Founder & CEO of OpenEntry.com
Location:
Brookside Gardens Visitors Center Auditorium
1800 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton, MD 20902 / 301-962-1400
Cloud computing is where major corporations offer free or low cost services
that used to run on personal computers. This is good for small business
owners who understand how to make the most of this opportunity to build and
manage to their own online e-commerce catalog. But e-commerce can be
tricky and expensive, so many small businesses have not taken advantage
of its power.
Dan will explain these concepts and also relate his experience with OpenEntry.com e-commerce initiatives with business networks in 44 countries.
He will also demonstrate implementations here in Wheaton/Kensington and
discuss how WK Chamber members can create their own free e-commerce catalogs.

for business owners in connecting with local customers. Let us help you get the
most out of Patch, providing value and helping you grow within the community.

the McDonald's, make an immediate left onto Upton Drive. Continue
on Upton Drive until it ends. Come up the stairs in the middle of
the building and enter through the canopied doors.
MapQuest directions
Small and medium-sized business owners look for ways to build their brand
within the community and connect with local customers. In some ways it is easy
these days - with the vast choices in social media and the capabilities of local
search. But in other ways it is harder than ever to sort through so many
online elements and manage your business’ brand across the web, while
trying to best connect with local customers.
It is critical to take control of various elements of your local online
presence, and we will show how businesses have successfully promoted their
brand within the community, using examples from the Patch platform.

Introduction of Rapid Transit in Montgomery County
A Presentation by:
Marc Elrich, Montgomery County Council, At-Large
Location:
Brookside Gardens Visitors Center Auditorium
1800 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton, MD 20902 / 301-962-1400
County Councilmember Marc Elrich is part of a Transit Task Force, appointed by
County Executive Ike Leggett, tasked with the mission of making a countywide
Bus Rapid Transit system a reality. A countywide rapid transit system would
address our congested roads and reduce pollution.
- A proposed 120-mile system would take people from where they live to where
they work, study and play. The transit vehicles would travel in their own dedicated
guideways in existing right-of-way and not get stuck in traffic.
- Transit that uses guideways is relatively inexpensive to build, and use minimal
paving because the center areas can be grass and used to handle stormwater.
